I am replying to your letter of the 28th October to
George Thomas with which you enclosed a letter from
Mrs. Olive Lewis.

In my letter to you of the 26th September I explained
the attitude of the Hong Kong Government towards the local
communist press and I cannot add anything to what I have
already told you on this particular subject.
Mrs. Lewis' son clearly takes a somewhat jaundiced
view of my recent visit to Hong Kong. In fact the visit
was a most exhausting one and my programme (including
those particular activities mentioned by Mrs. Lewis))
enabled me to meet a very large number of people from a
wide cross-section of the community at.

In the light of the efficiency and restraint with
which the Hong Kong authorities have dealt with the
events of the past six months, I do not think that you
will expect me to comment on the last sentence of
Mrs. Lewis' letter.
