Communist Newspapers.

On 19 August police raided building housing offices of all three Newspapers which are subject of Court proceedings (which resume today). Inflammatory printed material was seized. 34 arrests were made, but all were released later the same day.

One Wen Wei Pao reporter whose case was held over from group including 2 NCNA girls (my telegram No. 521) was discharged on 18 August, a 'nolle prosequi' having been entered by the Attorney General.

3. Journalists referred to in my telegram No. 460 come up today to plead.
