Chinese People Will Never Hold Back Their Strength
Peking, May 29 (Hsinhua) Today's People's Daily sharp- ly condemns the British imperialists for sending the aircraft carrier tle 'Bulwark' to the sea off Hongkong at a time when Chinese compatriots in Hongkong and Kowloon are conducting a heroic struggle against British fascist persecution. This is a shameless threat and intimidation by British imperialism against the Chinese compatriots in Hongkong and Kowloon, the old 19th century trick of imperialist "gun-boat diplomacy"?

kong authorities for their towering crimes', and that the Chinese people, who are armed with Mao Tse-tung's thought and who have scored great vic- tories in the great proletarian cultural revolution, will duly punish you!
'U.S. imperialism is a paper tiger, and British imperialism is also nothing but a paper tiger. U.S. imperialism has been beaten hard and is in a predicament in Vietnam. In staging provocations against the Chinese people, the completely de

'Gun-boat diplomacy' was a product of the old days when imperialism and colon- ialism acted lawlessly. In the 20th century, especially after the 2nd world, war, history had ushered in a great new) era of the world revolution in which the (Continued on page 4)
Let's Look at the Truth

Do you know that at Sanpokong on May 11 peace prevailed until the peace-keepers'—the police—took_action to 'keep the peace' there?
Do you know that many of those who were arrested since May 6 were beaten up before and after they were arrested and were beaten up again when they were in custody and that they were threatened with some further beating up if they refused to plead guilty at the court?
Do you know that two movie cameramen were arrested and beaten up, had their equipment badly battered and were kept in police custody for days before they were finally acquitted by the court?
Do you know that on May 15 two of our reporters were way- laid and beaten up in a side street near Sanpokong when they were on their way to a restaurant after having fulfilled their assignment

local Chinese who have pledged to fight to the end?
+

arrested over a hundred of them?
If your answers to all or most of these questions are 'No',
then you are badly served by the newspapers you read. In these pages we endeavour to supply you with the facts which you have missed.
Our attitude is well known and we make no secret of the side we have taken in the recent events. But we shall not let our strong feeling run away with us and shall do our best to give you a truth- ful picture of what has happened and what is happening so that you can compare it with the half truths and untruths you have been fed with and draw your own conclusion.
So let's all look at the truth.
