The Acting Governor vas informed on 21st July that it might be helpful, in securing the release of Mr. Gray, Bouter's correspondent in Paking now under house arrost, if it were found possible to deport IIBUEN FING ((1) above) to China. We enquired whether there would be any legal or political difficulties about such a course. The Acting Governor replied that it would be legally possible to remit sentence and deport Haueh Ping: that consideration vas

given to this idea before his trial; but that despite his pro-Communist attitude and H.C.N.A. employment, it is possible that he might refuse to go to China, sscuming that the Chinese Government were willing to accept him. This might cause complications vis-è-vis the Chinese Goverment.
