N.G. ROLPH, ACP/K
6th January, 1962.
12th Witness, Mr. D.E.W. O'Brien, M.B.E. Superintendent, Special Branch.
I am the Officer in charge of the section of Special Branch
which investigates the activities of K.M.T. Agents in the Colony.
Recently I was in charge of an investigation into a group of K.M.T.
intelligence agents. Amongst these persons wore five named
YAM Sai Ping and
(all
identified in person). During the course of this investigation I
found evidence of a possible leakage of information from Special
Branch to K.M.T. sources. I investigated this aspect.
On 19th Octobor, 1961 in Special Branch I received an anonymous
letter which alleged that certain K.M.T. Agents under the leadership
of one
were operating in the Colony. One of the addresses
named as being used by this group was that of CHAN Kai San, 4, Ferry
Street, lst floor.
On the evening 20th October, 1961 I caused a warrant to be
executed at this address.
During the course of my investigation the name Fife Building
arose. On the evening of the 20th October, 1961 whilst I was interrog-
ating CHAN Tak Man he revealed to me that his superior officer
operated from an office at Room 612, Fife Building. I had these
premises watched on the evening of the 20th until it was searched in
the early hours of 21st October, 1961.
The name Mr. X arose constantly as a member of the Supervisory
Unit of the K.M.T. in Hong Kong. Mr. X is the owner of the Z Business,
K Business and a partner in the L Business. He lives at G Street.
