Dear Ure Hark,

Thank you for your letter of the 1st March about Chu Leung's petition against his dismissal from the Hong Kong Police Force.

It does seem to me rather dreadful that it should take getting on for six months to let me have any information at all on a case which, to judge from your letter, must be fully documented. While of course I accept your apologies that the basic facts were not sent to me earlier, I have no doubt that you will wish to take steps to ensure that similar enquiries in the future are more expeditiously dealt with.

The final sentence of your letter could be misleading. In fact, it has been my secretary who has on at least four occasions telephoned the Department, on my instructions, to chase the matter. At no stage has she been given any of the reasons mentioned in your letter of the 1st March, and indeed on one occasion (subsequently corrected) she was told that a full reply would be sent "within three days". No doubt, you will wish to confirm these facts with the officials concerned.

I stand by win at. 0
