HONG KONG

Thank you for your minute of 10 April.

Now that we have had the views of all concerned here, I think it would be reasonably safe to suppose that agreement has been reached, in principle, on the two main points at issue:-

(a)

there are no objections to an extension of the Trade Commission's responsibilities to include a, for the present, small- scale Information effort; and

(16) the title of the office need not be

altered in consequence.

Might I now ask you to make the official approach to the Governor for his comments?

I should think that this will be little more than a matter of courtesy and formality, since as you will have seen from paragraph 7 of Singapore telegram No. 26 of 23 January, he gave Mr. Robert Maxwell, M.P., the impression that he would welcome such a step.
