I am afraid that we have had a further bill from the

Ministry of Defence in respect of extra costs arising from

assistance given during the disturbances last year. The

items of the bill are detailed in the enclosed copy of a

(2) letter which they have sent us. It may well be that these

additional items have already been notified to you by the

Command Secretary in Hong Kong. In any event, I am passing

the information on to you for the purposes of paragraph 4 of

ny letter to John Cowperthwaite of 16 July.
