Part I to cos 60th Meeting/67 1st August 1967

The Commander-in-Chief, Far East, should be informed that they were looking into the ways and means of deploying some troop carrying helicopters to Hong Kong, which they considered could be of value during the present troubled times.

Summing up, SIR RICHARD HULL said that they would instruct the Secretary to prepare a note to the Secretary of State requesting that the strength of the garrison in Hong Kong should not be reduced below 63 units, until the wide-ranging study on Hong Kong had been considered by the Defence and Oversea Policy Committee.

The Committee:

(1)

Agreed with the remarks of the Chief of the Defence Staff in his sunning up.

(2) Instructed the Secretary to send a signal to the Commander-in-Chief, Far East, conveying their decisions on his report (2) and covering the points made in their discussion.
