both British subjects and alions.

7. Very preliminary ostinatos indicato that, assuming an adequate period
of warming and no prior commitment at tho tino, aircraft from RAF Air
Support Command and Far East Air Force could ovacuato up to 5,000 people
2 day. The Far East Floot could provido a lift capacity of up to 12,000
por wook if ovacucos wore to ho takon to Singaporo and twice that numbor if
thoy had to go only as far as Manila. Should it be possible to make uso of
Morchant shipping and civilian aircraft, the numbers that could bo liftod
would, of course, be incroasod.
If thore woro a period of serious
disturbances boforo the situation deteriorated to the point at which
emergency evacuation was thought hocossary, it is likely that the United
Statos would have warships, probably including ono or more aircraft carriors,
oithor standing close by or at Hong Kong in the case of nood. This would
