intorrogato, such as senior mombors of Special Branch.
The
great majority in this catogory would be persons of Chinese race,
both British subjects and alions.

(iv) romaining British subjects of Chinoso race;
(v) foreign consular officials and their families (other than those
covered in (ii) above)

Dopondants would be ovacuated with persons in categories (i) and (ii);
in the case of catogories (iii), (iv), (v) it would be a matter of
women and childron first.

collecting persons in their areas according to lists provided;
(c) dosignation of assembly and evacuation arcas and provision of any
necessary additional facilities thoro;

7. Vory proliminary ostimates indicate that, assuming an adequate period
of warning and no prior commitmont at the tino, aircraft from RAF Air
Support Command and Fer Jast Air Force could evacuato up to 5,000 people
a day. The Far East Floot could provido a lift capacity of up to 12,000
por wook if evacuoos wore to bo takon to Singaporo and twico that number if
thoy had to go only as far as Manila.
Should it be possible to make uso of
merchant shipping and civilian aircraft, the numbors that could be liftod
would, of course, be incroasod.
If thore woro a period of scrious
disturbancos boforo tho situation deteriorated to the point at which
omorgency evacuation was thought nocossary, it is likely that the United
Statos would have warships, probably including one or more aircraft carriors,
cither standing close by or at Hong Kong in the case of nood. This would
