TERMS OF REFERENCE FOR STUDY ON FORCE REDUCTIONS

ANNEX B TO
CINCFE. 1511/6130/18 DATED 27TH APRIL 1967
Aim
1. To achieve a total reduction of 20,000 from British forces (including their civilian element) in the Far East as a whole between the end of confrontation and 1st April 1968.
Method
2.
This reduction should be planned on the following alternative assumptions:
a.
That no account is taken of political considerations.
b. That, because of political considerations, 28 Commonwealth Brigade and its organic units are left untouched.
In both cases major political and operational consequences resulting from the reductions should be identified. The alternatives of Far East Fleet providing or not providing, a CVA off Aden from mid-October 1967 to end of April 1968, should also be considered.
Assumptions
3.
In addition, the following overall assumptions are to be made:
a.
Support for SEATO may be based on supply from the United
Kingdom.
b.
Far East Fleet will be responsible for the Beira Patrol.
