Papers entered in Mid-Junt.
TOP SECRET
Mr. Trafford Smith (through Mr. Stacpoole)
Mr. Stacpoole has shown me these papers.
It so happens
that at the same time OPD (67) (29) attached to HWB 10/2 came to me for comment. I attach a copy of the minute of comments which I have placed with that paper.
2. Before I left the Office for Tashington in early April I was in fact fairly closely consulted, as was Mr. Carter, on the various defence review studies which were being undertaken with a view to assisting in deciding on Far East defence policy. I have not yet had a chance to learn what I have missed during my absence but I am sure that we can rely on Mr. Reed and Mr. Moreton to consult both me and Mr. Carter as necessary.
3.
You may nonetheless think it would be worthwhile discussing the matter further in the light of the minutes on this folder with me and Mr. Stacpoole. If so, I should naturally be happy to do so whenever you wish.
