INFLAMMATORY PROPAGANDA AND SUBVERSIVE TEACHING
PROHIBITED IN SCHOOLS

Director of Education Writes To
Schools

Schools were warned today that they will not be allowed to be used for the
dissemination of inflammatory propaganda or subversive teaching.
The warning was contained in letters sent to the management of these schools
by the Director of Education, Mr. W.D. Gregg, who has received reports that such
activities had been carried on in those schools last term.
Weapons as well as inflammatory and subversive documents were also found in
some of the schools during police raids on the premises.
The Director of Education's letter also contains 13 conditions which the
'school managements have to comply with.
The letter states: "If the conditions laid down are not scrupulously followed,
or if there are serious breaches of the Education Ordinance, the school will be closa.
Steps will be taken, in addition to normal school inspection, to ensure that
the schools are run in a lawful and proper manner.
A Government spokesman said that any school giving proper education to its
pupils will have no difficulty in abiding by the conditions laid down by the Director
of Education.
These conditions relate to the display of inflammatory matter, possession of
weapons etc., obstruction of school inspectors and intimidation of pupils and
