REQUEST FOR INTERVIEW OF SECRETARY OF STATE
FOR HONG KONG TELEVISION
Hong Kong Television Station B (H.K.- T.V.B) is to be inaugurated on 19 November, 1967. It is being started with the full backing of the Governor and the authorities there, and is expected to play a part in maintaining confidence and morale.
2.
A.B.C. Television have been commissioned to produce a 28 minute inauguration programme and have asked the Secretary of State to close the programme with a three to four minute interview by Ludovic Kennedy. (The letter at Flag. A gives some indication of the intentions in respect of the inauguration programmes.)
3.
News Department consider this a useful platform for the Secretary of State to speak to Hong Kong and recommend (as does Hong Kong Department at Flag B)that Secretary of State should take pert.
4.
A.B.C. T.V. will provide draft questions early next week but understand that the Secretary of State may have certain points he may wish to put across and have agreed to change questions if
necessary.
5.
I suggest that, if the Secretary of State agrees, the interview should take place in the Secretary of State's Office at 2.Q0 p.m. on Wednesday 18 October.
