Mr. Gaminara
When I saw this on my return from leave yesterday
morning I felt very strongly that it would be wrong
for the Secretary of State to record his part in
this programme over a month in advance.
It seemed to
me impossible, so far in advance of the programme
actually going over the air, to be sure that we could
strike exactly the right note; and I could not see any real reason why the recording could not await the Secretary of State's return from his Africa tour.
2. I accordingly spoke with Mr. Ellis, and at his
request Mr. Jasper had another word with the television
producer. It has now been arranged that the Secretary
of State should make his recording on Monday, November
13th. We should therefore make sure that we get the
proposed texts in the box which will be sent to the
Secretary of State on the previous Friday.
