In 1966, there were recorded exports of this item to sixty-four markets and Hong Kong has shown some success in surmounting tariffs in Kenya i Malawi which are well above the C.E.T. level. However, performance in these markets still lags behind that in the UK. on which this item is highly dependent. There is no known reason for the lack of exports to E.E.E. Member States but if it is because Hong Kong is uncompetitive, its trade with the United Kingdom could be seriously affected by reverse preferences.

This item has become less dependent on the U.K. market than in 1961 and some progress has been made in the U.S. market. However, in 1966 the U.K. still accounted for 41% of total exports of this item and the adoption of the 22% C.E.T. (14% after the Kennedy Round cuts) could have an adverse effect on the trade, although the successes in the E.E.C. give some cause for optimism.
