You wrote to me on 8 September about a new Anglo Benelux Agreed Minute on Trade.

The only comment we have on your drart concerns bacon. we are not, apparently, committed by the Bacon Market Sharing Under- standing to have separate talks with Benelux about bacon supplies; talks would normally take place in the form of the Bacon Market Council. A more important point is that the Netherlands (the only member of Benelux involved) conspicuously failed to supply their full share ever since the scheme began.
Subject to the Ministry of Agriculture's views
therefore, we think that the reference to
bacon should be dropped.
