Investigation into incident at Nam Hang on 29 May has now been

completed.

Investigation shows that tear smoke about which the farmers complained drifted in a strong wind from a Police practice range situated more than a thousand yards away.

Hong Kong Government regrets this incident and any inconvenience which was caused by it.

Accident indicates that range is unsuitable for tear smoke practice and its use for this purpose will accordingly be discontinued

Hong Kong Government repeats their assurance that farmers from Chinese territory who own land in British territory are free to cross border and to work peaceably and safely in their fields.

Ends.
