(f) Some damage was done ic graves during recent building of military installations on hillside at Man Kam To. The usual compensation was made at the time to owners of graves (including one from Chinese territory) but other owners of graves did not come forward. We told Chinese authorities that we would be prepared to pay the usual New Territories terms of compensation to bona fide owners. There is no question of being "forced" to accept any "demands". This Chinese statement merely dresses up
some of discussions which we held on border matters.

a counter protest about closing of bridge which is presumably what you are referring to. It was in the course of this exchange that it was suggested that this was a local matter which could be settled by discussion on the spot, Ends informs.
