NCNA contact was told this morning that we were prepared to send representatives to Shumchun but that this did not commit us in any way about subsequent meetings. The various points about safe conduct and publicity, etc. were reiterated and agreed. We suggested that the meeting should take place between 1300 and 1700 local time on Wednesday, 1 November. No confirmation has been received so far.
