A Hong Kong Police Inspector was forcibly taken over the Man Kam To Bridge into China shortly after half past seven this (Saturday) evening.

The Inspector (whose name is being withheld while police communicate with his family in England) had been hearing requests made by farmers from Chinese territory about wire which was put in 1962 on land acquired by a lawful process after compensation for crops was paid and accepted by these farmers from Chinese territory.

The forcible abduction of Police Inspector came at end of long series of talks held between various Security Officers and Government Officials and the farmers during the course of the day.

They began this morning when a man asked for a barbed wire fence to be removed from land near the border. He was shown a receipt for compensation paid to owner of land when fence was erected in 1962, but he said he now represented owner of land and would not (repeat not) honour the agreement.

During the morning, at various time, Security Officers and Government Officials explained the situation to the farmers They were informed that they could, if they wished, send a representative to the District Office in Taipo as is the normal practice.

More informs.
