their demand and said that they would, if necessary, use force to effect the return of their people. They referred to the recent incident concerning the Lo Fong villagers (Davies's letter of 18th October to Whitney in Peking) and their successful insistence upon erecting a blackboard with quotations from Chairman Mão in the fields which they work in British territory as an example of the determination that they would show in the current matter. They finally left the police station, singing songs and quotations from Mao.

Unfortunately, as they went on their way,

they were photographed by a German tourist who happened to be there; (Lau Fau Shan is not in the restricted border zone). They demanded the destruction of the film. The tourist did not attempt to argue the case and exposed his film.
