The fact that the attacks

appeared to be co-ordinated, at least in

the early stages, the accuracy of fire and the

use of automatic weapons all indicate that

many of those taking part had military training.

There is no evidence whatever that they were regular or border troops. It is considered

that the incident was almost certainly

stimulated by militant villagers on the Chinese

mambus

side including members of the militia who are

known to be equipped with small arms including

automatic weapons which are not always held in

central armouries. Such reactions by the

C.C.A. as were seen were defensive in their

nature.
