In general, Consul-General remained extremely vague. told him that we were awaiting instructions on the replies to his earlier requests; but reminded him that one essential of an orderly evacuation would be the provision to Hong Kong of advance lists of those whose arrival here would be sponsored by the Macao Government.

5. Meanwhile we learn

that the

Secretary of the Macao Government was today told by the Governor that if this afternoon's negotiations go badly he will put evacuation in hand.
