Another item on this subject from the British press was honded "The Sevict Unicn is vainly trying to drive a wedge between China and Pakistan by giving military aid to Pakistan" A Pakistan announcement that agreement with the Scviet Union had been reached on the supply of credits to Pakistan was also noted. Reports cf President Ayub Khan's visit to Londen suggested that, though he was said to have gone to Britain for a modical check-up, he was also interested in securing additional arms supplies, particularly of naval equipment. (The President's romarks playing down Soviet military aid to Pakistan were also included in those reperts). The Chinese reported an article in the Takistan Times supporting President Titc's call for the convening of a conference of non-aligned countries.
Tanzania
A report giving Tanzania's reasons for resuming relations with Britain appeared in the bulletin. This quoted President Hycrore as saying that ence relations were resumed, Tanzania would be in a better position to put pressure on the UK cver Rhodesia,

The visit of the Mali President to the Soviet Union for "a rest" was noted.

The bulletin republished an article from "The Guardian" which among other things explained why the Naga leaders had decided to turn to China for help.

Several items concerned with Heng Keng appeared during this period, mcst of them during the first days of August. summary of an article in the Far East Economic Review, reprinted during July, was said to "expose US use of Heng Keng", The US was at pains to maintain a "lcw pcsture" in the cclcny, but made extensive use of Heng Keng for the collection of intelligence on China; as a recreation centre fçr US servicemen, and as an cutlet fer capital investment. On 31 July the bulletin published an account of Heng Keng compatriots' support for Mao's directive on educational reform, coupled with a denunciation of the British authorities' moves to de- register the Chung Wah school. Rather cddly, another Far Bastern Economic Review article, dated 20 June, commenting on the Heng Keng Government's difficulties in dealing with non-viclent communist delegations, appeared at the beginning ugust. Perhaps the message is that non-viclent tactics are effective..

Chinese sensitivity to "anti-Chinese" manifestations in Heng Keng was illustrated in a report which condemned a "US/ Chiang' bock exhibition which was said to have slandered the Cultural Revolution. Taiwan publishers were said to have been present, and the Heng Keng Government to have given its support to the exhibition,

A Reuters repert queting a Vickers-Zimmer spokesman en China's recent actions against the firm appeared on 10 July. The spokesman said that his firm did not recognise the jurisdiction of the Chinese court, and wished to put the case
