Apart from inaccuracies which I am glad the News Department were able to correct I do not think the article caused us much concern. It is common knowledge here (I have made no secret of the fact) that I have applied for my exit visa and obvious that it has not yet been granted.

It may even serve as a warning shot to the Chinese, which would be no bad thing.

Incidentally it is not strictly accurate to say this was my first application.

I first applied last August to leave on 2 September. was never considered but technically remained "In" until we submitted new list at the end of November last and withdrew other outstanding applications.
