/Khartoum.

Your telegram No. 358 to Berne: Chinese Exit Visas..

The only special consideration I am aware of here is that my Chinese colleague is, as he confirmed to me the other day, the only or almost the only Chinese Ambassador at present at his post. Do not know whether his exemption from the general recall to Peking means that he is more or less than normally influential there.

2.

I would not expect the Egyptians to reject out of hand

a request that they should take action on our behalf and I

see no harm in trying. They would probably want to be assured that others would join.

F.0. pass Peking, Washington and Hong Kong and Saving to Rabat, Algiers, Baghdad and Khartoum.

Sir H. Beeley

[Repeated as requested].
