Though the Chinese seem to have been surprisingly genial and relaxed on some occasions, even permitting themselves several playful jibes at members of the British delegation, once again they were not prepared to scknowledge the principle of reciprocal bant^r. Vice Commander Wong shoved himself extremely sensitive to his own dignity. He rebuked a British representative for "sarcasm" in talking of his "golden tongue" (ninth meeting, page 8). In his peroration (tenth meeting, page 13) he also appeared to resent an earlier reference to him as a "young man"
