Addressed to Foreign Office telegram No. 287 of 6 April Repeated for information to Hong Kong
2.
Your telegram No. 339.
I am grateful for this decision.
On the assumption that we shall be able to reply to Lo's statement by the end of next week i.e. by 13 April, I would prefer to defer the news on the entry visas until then so as to give the maximum impact. But I should like to be able to say then "we have granted outstanding entry visas applications and in future entry visas will be dealt with in the normal way", having already issued the visas that day. Do you agree?
Foreign Office please pass Hong Kong 199.
Sir D. Hopson
