27.11.67. Our Charge informed by IFA that root cause of
abnormal state of Sinc-British relations was the
suppressed Chinese uitizens in Hong Kong and that until this stopped and British Government accepted
Chinese Government's demands and released all
prisoners, there could be no improvement or
nomalisation of relations.
6.12.67. Our Chargé informed by IF that if we wished relations to improve we must first stop suppression of Chinese in Hong Kong.
8.3.68. Vice-Minister of Foreign Affairs told Chargé that
British Government must reply to the various demands put forward by the Chinese Government before it would be possible to discuss concrete problema including restoration of normal movement for
diplomatic staff, trade, culture, etc. Kong problem eculd not be brushed aside.
