2. There is no truth in the allegation that any prisoners s on cement floors; the lowest bunk in any prison is 8" above the floor. We shall send you by bag ration scales to supplement information about food given in penultimate paragraph of statement above. 3,000 calories is regarded as fully adequate for prisoners not engaged in heavy manual work; since all Communist prisoners over 21 are at present refusing to take part in any form of labour in prison the scale must be adequate for them. Most prisoners in fact gain weight in prison.
