mine.
10. Finally, I thanked Monsieur Paye for the information
from his Embassy which we had received through the French
Embassy here and the Quai. Fonsieur Payo said he would like
to continue to help us as much as possible in this as long
as our Mission were prevented from doing so. He would ensure
that all his political telegrams of any importance were
repeated to the French Embassy in London so that we could
see then here. He again asked, however, that we should use
the utmost care in not disclosing our source. I reassured
him on this point.
11. Just before leaving, Monsieur Faye mentioned that he
had come directly from seeing the General to his meeting with
me at the Quai. I did not feel that I could ask him what the
General had said and he clearly did not intend to disclose
anything of substance to me. He did, however, say that the
General and he had agreed that anyone serving in Feking must
have strong nerves and that clearly Mr. Hopson had them.
12. Although I gained little additional information from
Monsieur Faye to that already telegraphed by our Embassy in
Paris, I feel sure that the visit was worthwhile in that I
was able to repeat our thanks to Monsieur Paye on behalf of
the Office for all he had done for Er. Hopson and our staff.
