As at present planned, U.S.S. LONGBEACH (nuclear powered guided missile cruiser) is due to arrive here on 26th February.

2. Although there was hostile local press comment on visit

certainly not sufficient reaction from Peking to justify postponing visit by PROVIDENCE. On the first two days after PROVIDENCE's arrival the left-wing press published an unusual amount of hostile comment (my telegrams Nos.92 and 94) primarily about presence on the ship of Commander 7th Fleet, but nothing more is said today and we know of no reaction yet from Peking.
