Thank you for your letter of February 1 about may

reply to your Parliamentary uestion on Tuesday,

January 31, concerning the use of Hong Kong by (hited

States warships. I confirm that my answer was correct

in relation to your question es you formulated it, 1.0.,

no United States warships "have used the British muVUÀ

base at long kong". This is not, of course, to say

that "nited States warships have not entered Hong Kong

harbour in substa tial nuribers in recent years for

recreational visits. They have, but they have not used

our naval base properly a. lofined. for indeed have

they asked for or beer. give, my other services or

ilcilities at. Hong Kong that are not normally available

to naval vessels at a y major port.
