PRIORITY PEKING TO FOREIGN OFFICE

Telno. 891

2/5

14 July 1967

UNCLASSIFIED

Addressed to Foreign Office telegram No. 891 of 14 July Repeated for information to Hong Kong, Singapore and Washington.

People's Daily of 14 July carries three articles on Hong Kong. The first reports protest demonstration by journalist circles outside our office here on 13 July against the arrest of NCNA reporter Hsueh B'ing. Second item describes the police raise on Wah Fung Emporium during the night of 11/12 July. Third article draws attention to the fact that now, for the first time, regular British troops are being used by the authorities in Hong Kong. This is described as a "serious escalation of the Fascist atrocities" which will be matched with an escalation in the opposition. -
