People's Daily of 30 June carries brief report summarising Chinese protest Note about alleged air intrusions over China from Hong Kong (my telegram No. 787).

The only other articles on Hong Kong deals with the "Great United Strike", Article says that workers from twenty transport, public utilities, docks and textile enterprises have resisted armed threats, handcuffing by agents and all kinds of deception and have continued the strike. Large numbers of agents and armed policemen were allegedly sent to coerce warehouse workers into resuming work but this attempt failed.

Article also says that commercial transport services in Hong Kong are at a semi-standstill and that strikes among electricity and telephone workers have reduced these services to chaos. Hong Kong authorities sent plain clothes agents to beat up workers in their hostels to force them to work. Bus and tram workers have also resisted similar pressure. Ferry workers and workers in Government departments British owned enterprises are also joining strike in increasing numbers.
