"At the moment of crisis, people of Hong Kong stood foursquare behind you and it was then that the true spirit of Hong Kong emerged.

"By their words and their deeds public has

given you Sir and will continue to give you a vote of confidence of a kind and a unanimity which is the stronger for not, repeat not, being counted in

upraised hands and nodding heads.

"In fact, one may say that situation we faced wrought a miracle a unanimity of spirit and purpose

The Honourable F.S. Li associated himself with

remarks of Mr. Ruttonjee.

Mr. Li said that restoration of stability

in community life of Hong Kong was most imperative need at present time and that it was in power of every right minded citizen to contribute to it by going about his ordinary business to best of his ability.

He called on people of Hong Kong to keep calm and go about their daily pursuits so that Colony's normal way of life might continue as usual.

"I particularly ask them not, repeat not, to believe rumours which may be deliberately circulated for purpose of dislocating smooth flow of our community

life.

"I ask all parents to keep their children away from all political activities and demonstrations so as to leave them free to concentrate on their studies and equip themselves to take their places in community.
