IMMEDIATE PEKING TO FOREIGN OFFICE
Telno. 632 3 June 1967

Addressed to Foreign Office telegram No. 632 of 3 June Repeated for information to Hong Kong, Washington and Singapore.
My immediately preceding telegram.
My first impression of this People's Daily editorial is that in spite of its prominence and loud tone it is rather feeble. The Left-Wing in Hong Kong will no doubt take it as a directive to carry on doing what they already seem to be doing, (see paragraph 7 of my telegram under reference). But there is no (repeat no) reference to the Five-point demands.
2. On this basis I am not (repeat not) inclined to modify the views expressed in my telegram No. 419 to Hong Kong.
Foreign Office pass Priority Washington 313.
Mr. Hopson
