Following is text of telegram addressed to me on

3 June at 2300 by Head of NCNA .

Mr. Trench, Government House, Upper Albert Road,

Today the British authorities in Hong Kong despatched armed police units to patriotic bookshops, banks, department stores, and cinemas and other organisations in Hong Kong and Kowloon, where using threats and intimidation, they ordered the tearing down of photographs and literature which had been displayed in windows in order to propagate Mao Tse Tung's thoughts and expose the sanguinary suppression of the compatriots in Hong Kong and Kowloon by the Hong Kong British authorities. They were met with strong and righteous refusal from the workers and staff of the various organisations? This action taken by the British authorities in Hong Kong is inimical to patriotic compatriots in Hong Kong and Kowloon, and another serious political provocation to the Chinese people. This is something that patriotic compatriots in Hong Kong and Kowloon and the Chinese people absolutely cannot tolerate.

I now lodge with you the strongest and most serious protest. Patriotic compatriots in Hong Kong and Kowloon, armed with the thoughts of Mao Tse Tung, are now bravely engaging in their anti-persecution struggle and do not fear any provocation from the British authorities in Hong Kong,

The British authorities in Hong Kong must immediately cancel this barbaric and unreasonable measure. Otherwise, the British authorities in Hong Kong will have to bear all the serious consequences that may arise therefrom.
