Were the disturbances instigated by Peking?

The extent of Communist China's involvement

This is not clear. But what is abundantly and unfortunately only too evident is that the Chinese authorities, with the full force of their propaganda media, have supported the local trouble-makers and grossly

distorted the measures taken by the Hong Kong Government to maintain public order.

What effects have the disturbances had on the

economy of Hong Kong?

Events of this kind are bound to have some effect, but so far Hong Kong, with its splendid resilience, seems to be bearing up very well. But we are watching the situation very closely.

Ends.
