would produce pensions which would need to be reduced according to the present formula for calculating the maximum Governors' pension payable under U.K. legislation.
9. I am afraid that for these and other reasons we are not at present able to support your proposals. We fully agree that following recent OSAS reviews there is a case for immediate increases in the salaries of the Governors of Fiji, the Western Pacific and perhaps the Seychelles and Gibraltar. Following the recent Treasury agreement to increases in the Caribbean there will also be an immediate case for an increase for the Governor of British Honduras. We think, however, that the increases needed can well be calculated ad hoc without the introduction of a general formula which, if simple in form would seen excessively subject to error and if made sufficiently complex to take account of all factors, would scarcely seem worth the effort for the few remaining Governorships.
