I attach a Note about these meetings. I did not at first include you in the distribution as I did not think that anything of special interest to Hong Kong would come up. I understand now that in the Far East Paper to be taken at 4 p.m. on 12 September in the Conference Room in Matthew Parker Street there is a proposal that expenditure on the British Council in Hong Kong be cut down, or even cut out altogether, as part of the economies which Ministers have decided we must make next year. You may therefore wish to send a representat- ive to this meeting.
