China which had lead to a general disrup-
tion of communications. The trade pattern
of 1967 has continued during the first half
of this year with imports from China down
on the corresponding period last year and
her position as Hong Kong's principal sup-
plier at present being threatened by Japan.
3. U.K. Direct and Portfolio Investment.
Little information on this subject is avai)-
able, but it is known that direct invest-
ment has fluctuated in recent years between
£0.5 million and £4 million.
4. Aid. Apart from some C.D. & W. grants
largely for higher education, Hong Kong has
received no aid from U.K. funds.
