Mr. Mason
(82)
Miss W. L. Hazell, Private Secretary to Sir Michael Cary (Permanent Secretary, M.P.B.W.), rang to say that Sir Michael is leaving for Singapore on 18 October and will arrive in Hong Kong on the 27th where he will stay for two days.
Sir Michael has been to Hong Kong before, but he would be glad of a short brief, i.e. mentioning any subjects that he should avoid, or any points that it might be useful for him to "plug". He will be calling on Mr. Gass, in the Governor's absence on leave, and the Director of the Public Works Department, Mr. Wright. He will be meeting embassy people at parties, but the rest of his visit will be concerned with defence matters.
Miss Hazell had telephoned
Sir Paul Gore-Booth's office who referred her to you.
