COMMONWEALTH FINANCE MINISTERS MEETING 1967
We have just received guidance from the Treasury regarding
background briefing further to that circulated on 25 July.

2. The Chancellor's Private Office is anxious that adequate
background information should be available on certain individual
countries, to cover the informal meetings which the Chancellor
frequently has on these occasions with individual Ministers.
3. The information we are particularly asked to provide apart
from information on sterling balances and size of reserves, which
will be covered in a special Treasury brief with limited circulation,
as last year relates to the following matters:-
Treasuns
CF PD
(a) Recent figures and trends of the trade of the
country concerned, particularly trade with
Britain;
(b) The size of our investment stake in the country;
(c) The amount of aid, if any, provided by us, and
some of the details of its content.
This information would be included in the country notes for those
countries in which the trend has been particularly interesting.
4. You will no doubt have much of the information already, or if
not will be able to obtain it without difficulty. Isaac in Treasury
Finance (Statistics) Division, extension 324 should be able to help
with (b) above.

Sufficient copies of this note are enclosed to allow for a copy
to be passed to each officer responsible for drafting.
