I have the honour to inform you that I have appointed Mr. M.A.R. Young-Herries, M.C., provisionally and subject to Her Majesty's pleasure, to be temporarily an Unofficial Member of the Legislative Council with effect from 23rd March 1967, during the absence from the Colony of Mr. G.R. Ross.

Mr. Ross is the current representative of the Hong Kong General Chamber of Commerce and, in accordance with normal practice, the Chamber was invited to nominate one of its members who would be willing to serve in a provisional capacity. The Chamber nominated Mr. Herries who is Chairman and Managing Director of the import and export firm of Jardine, Matheson & Company Limited and of other local companies.

Copies of the Instrument of Appointment in respect of Mr. Young-Herries and of the Gazette Notice promulgating his appointment are attached.
