The coffee-shop boasts rich walnut panelling to set off an entire wall of beautifully-costumed dolls in specially lighted built-in cases.
In the hotel's grand ballroom the decor is bright yellows and browns, with lightly upholstered brass chairs, a beamed ceiling and heavily panelled dividing walls and entrance doors. The room covers some 6,000 sq. ft. and has a ceiling height of 16ft. 2in. It will hold more than 1,000 people for re- ceptions or 600 for banquets. Its faci- lities include a six-language translation system.
Spacious assembly areas are adja- cent to the ballroom which has its own entrance and parking section. There are also eight additional private func- tion and dining rooms.
The Chosun Hotel is a joint venture of the Korean Government, represen- ted by the Korea Tourist Service, and American Airlines. Each partner contri- buted US$5.5 million to the develop-
ment.
Construction was undertaken by a joint venture of Hyun Dai Construction Co. Ltd, and Sam Whan Enterprises Co. Ltd., with The Bechtel Organisation of San Francisco acting as project managers. Work started in October 1967 and was completed in March 1970.
