THE latest Hatra loading shovel, model 1000, is fitted with an 87 h.p. engine and a 1.3 cu.m. bucket. The machine can handle loads up to 6,600 kg. and reach a maximum breakout force of 7.000 kg.
There is a choice of two speed ranges for working, up to 7 and to 15 k.p.h. respectively, and two for travelling, reaching 25 and 44 k.p.h.. through an auxiliary transmission.
Standard features include selection of two- or four-wheel drive, hydraulic brakes, power-assisted steering and a driver's cab with a hydraulically-

sprung seat and large all-round safety-glass windows. With an all-up weight of 7,500 kg., the machine measures 3 m. high by 2.3 m. wide by 5.36 m. long overall, including the bucket in its lowered position, and has inside and outside turning radii of 9 and 15 m. respectively.
Capable of cutting to a depth of 10 cm., the buckets can discharge at a height of 2.7 m., 88 cm. in front of the wheels, when tipped to an angle of 45 deg. Lifting the bucket takes 7.5 sec., and lowering it, 5 sec.: tipping and roll-back take 2.2 and 2.5 sec. respectively.

The drumhead trunnion portion of the seal provides an integral seal cover to shield against abrasive ma- terials which can cause damage and wear when allowed in the shaft seal bearing area.
The new models feature the same capacity and performance of the pre- vious 10 and 12 cu. yd. models. They also offer patented spiral blade, fast end to end mixing action and are de- signed for large hand crews or to keep ahead of any plastering ma- chine requirement. Both models use the Essick totally enclosed power transmission, multiple disc clutch run- ning in oil and lifetime lubricated ball bearings.

Other features of the D5 tractor in- clude the Cat D333 diesel engine, rat- ed at 93 h.p., a one-piece main frame and mechanically controlled, contract- ing band brakes.
The power shift transmission is a three-speed forward, three-speed re- verse full power shift planetary trans- mission with basic configuration the same as on other Cat track type trac- tors. Speed and directional control are accomplished by a single lever control.
Steering clutch control levers are console mounted and the multiple disc steering clutches are hydraulical- ly boosted. The governor control, 24 volt direct electric starting control, and optional gas starting controls are also dash mounted.
The tractor is available in either 60 in. or 74 in. track gauges.

Sealed Unit for Use with AC Tractors
ALLIS CHALMERS, Milwaukee, Wis., USA. are marketing a model 403 winch which adapts the H-3/HD-3 and H-4/HD-4 crawlers to logging and other pulling operations.
Line pull capacity of the all-gear drive unit ranges up to 18,000 lb. One lever controls both the clutch and band-type brake, using power from the tractor's hydraulic system.
The winch is completely sealed. Hydraulic fluid
through passage within the winch cover to the actuating clutch cylinder via a rotary joint on the main shaft, rather than through a swivel fitting. Problems of alignment and torque are eliminated and leakage is minimised.

The clutch-brake drum is support- ed on inner and outer edges to with- stand pressures and heat of clutch and brake operation. The drum, like the shaft and spool assemblies, turns easily on large sealed ball bearings which are protected by double and triple lip seals. The contracting type brake also has a segmented lining.
