institutional atmosphere. The wards are light, airy and spacious and over- look the water. The buildings are set in carefully landscaped grounds, the three blocks being orientated to eliminate the problems of glare and to take maximum advantage of the magnificent view.

The site itself, a small block over- looking the Aberdeen channel, slopes very steeply from the road. The buildings have been positioned along the contours and are stepped to fol- low the fall of the land. This has

resulted in an interesting and pleasant grouping of buildings, fitting neatly into the hillside.

Finishes

The nature of the building demand- ed a high standard of interior finishes. The materials used were selected for their durability and ease of mainten- ance. Panels of terrazzo form a dado around the walls, finishing in a coved skirting at the junction with the vinyl tiled floor.

Walls in toilet areas are glazed ceramic tiles and the floors are mosaic tiled. Ceilings throughout are gyp- sum plaster.

The exterior of the building has been plastered and painted in bands of white and dark grey.
